According to him he was born about February 1717 "Old Style" which began a year on "Lady Day"‑‑ March 25, so his year of birth was 1718 in the modern New Style in effect in the British Dominions since 1752. His wife was not Rebecca Lyon her maiden name was Armstrong. He was not a delegate to the Congress in 17‑‑that was his son John Jr. His gravestone in the Carlisle Public Cemetery is not original and has false information. He was presumably the son of James, but his date of birth has been confused.
